Outcomes
A team of diverse students and entrepreneurs designs a nature-preserving solution especially for a business park to be developed. The solution is inspired by the ecosystem around the tree that is now growing in the area: the Grauwe Abdeel. How can a building take over or compensate for the functionality of this tree? Services that were looked at are the storage of water and the living organisms in and around the tree. Air filtering is also included in the design of the building.
During the hackaton, Rijkswaterstaat asked to come up with sustainable, innovative solutions for renovating 13 bridges in 5 years, without too much traffic disruption and with scarce capacity at both the Ministry of Transport and Market parties. Forty participants from engineering firms, contractors, start-ups, students and biomimicry experts set to work on the problem at a hackathon organized by Spinwaves on the Infratech.
Three concepts are being developed to counter noise nuisance around 50 kilometers of roads in inner-city areas: Dawda, Absorba and My Green.
All three concepts are based on techniques from nature. At Dawda, noise is seen as a source of energy, which provides special feedback to road users. At Absorba, the design of the human intestine is central to the final solution: they develop bulbs made of a material with large absorbent surfaces that can be placed in the street. Finally, My Green will change the whole design of the street: by installing green spaces and lowering street sections, a solution will be devised for every type of noise nuisance.
Hackathon Nature Based Solutions Shell
Spinwaves will hack a sustainability challenge brought in bu the Nature Based Solutions Group of Shell.
Two day Hackathon GEVEL2020
What solutions will future-proof the city’s infrastructure? The design of large cities, such as Rotterdam, are mostly defined by their infrastructure. For example, the Maastunnel, the Erasmus bridge and the metro network are iconic technical constructions in Rotterdam. These are the underlying issues that we are going to address during this two-day hackathon.

Teams are designing two solutions for an empty school building in Hoogvliet in Rotterdam:
Ruig Nature Plaza
The concept behind Ruig Nature Plaza is to find sustainable relationships at different levels in the immediate vicinity. One of the proposals that can produce a sustainable relationship is to strengthen the connection of the already existing cycle path with the nearby nature reserve.
Communi-Tree

Hackathon Waterschap Brabantse Delta
How can we give the innovation climate within the water boards a boast? How do ideas come to realization faster? Which cultural barriers must we break through? The hackathon for the Brabant Delta lasted 24 hours. More than 30 employees put their teeth into the above task and presented their solutions to the management during breakfast.
