In order to develop both groundbreaking and sustainable solutions, we focus on the knowledge of nature in the design process. Nature is full of ingenious design. In 3.8 billion years the animals and plants have been perfectly adapted to their circumstances. Did you know, for example, that the wing of an owl is designed so that it can fly silently? There is also infinite inspiration at a systemic level. The cohesion in a food chain, or the collaboration of ants, gives a lot of inspiration to pioneering new designs when investigating precisely. We teach you to use this enormous database of technical knowledge and experience in the hackathon to develop products, processes, systems and strategies that fit within a natural ecosystem. This science is called Biomimicry, the design tool is the Design Lens. Often through the entire sustainability discussion and all possible sustainable solutions ‘the forest no longer sees through the trees’. And with regard to sustainability, we only look at the use of materials and the saving of energy. By using biomimicry, sustainability becomes a complete and logical story. A story with countless opportunities and possibilities.
